Sul Janggu Rhythm Performance(The Prime Janggu
Drummers' Performance) |
This
is a work performed with an hourglass-shapeddrum,
janggu which is a representative of Korean percussion
instruments.A number of drummers perform at the
same time with janggus whose notes are different
from each other. A janggu drum alone can make a
performance complete, so it can be said to be the

Samool-Nori
Rhythm Performance |
Thisis what recomposes various kinds of rhythm
whichhave developed from the festivals, ceremonies
and amusements of many areas over thousands of years.
The performance uses buk, janggu, jing and kwenggwari,
which
are respectively compared to cloud, rain, wind and
lightning.
Two instruments of leather and as many instruments
of iron, at some times together, but at other times
separately make their energy accumulated and make
music tense and harmonious without limit.

Pan
Gut (Dancing Performance of Exorcism) |
This
is what has stemmed from specialized artist companies
over hundreds of years whose techniques are at their
best. From feet through fingertips to the tuft hanging
from the cap, there show bold and delicate dancing
movements, powerful rhythm and dynamic changes of
forms, which make the performance natural and alive.
This work makes the spectators feel that the harmony
of people and instruments that are different from
each other in dancing movements, musical features
and philosophy gives off enormous energy. Taepyungso,
a kind of reed instrument of bamboo adds softness
to the power of percussion instruments and makes
the performance more harmonious.

Sogo
Dancing |
As
one of the instruments for Korean folk music, sogo,
a smaller Korean drum with a handle plays the role
not so much of a musical instrument as of a dancing
instrument. Sogo dancing is an artistically heightened
movement of military defence with shields and traditional
labor. This dance can safely be said to be a representative
of Korean folk dances which have come down to us.

This
dance is done with a tufted cap on. Its brilliant
movements and free, diverse lines that the tuft
makes are so marvellous that it is called the best
of all dances accompanied by Korean percussion instruments.
The movements of the dancing at once swift and slow,
represent the highest levels of techniques which
are characteristic of Korea.
